US officials due in Pakistan next week to discuss Afghan deportation issue
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – A delegation of US officials is expected to visit Pakistan next week to discuss the deportation of Afghan nationals who have taken refuge in Pakistan following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
The visit comes amid growing concerns about the safety of Afghans who are being deported back to their country, where they face the risk of persecution from the Taliban.
The US government has urged Pakistan not to repatriate Afghans who actively collaborated with its forces in Afghanistan, fearing reprisals from the Taliban administration.
Pakistan has said that it will continue to deport Afghan nationals who are illegally residing in the country. However, it has also said that it is willing to consider the cases of Afghans who are at risk of harm if they are returned to Afghanistan.
The upcoming visit of US officials is expected to focus on finding a solution to the deportation issue that will protect the safety of Afghan refugees.
The issue of Afghan refugees is a complex one, and there is no easy solution. However, both the US and Pakistan have a responsibility to ensure that the safety of Afghan refugees is protected.
